Valentin Vacherot Beats Jiri Lehecka to Win Basel ATP Title

Valentin Vacherot secured the second title of his career by defeating Jiri Lehecka 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 in the Swiss Indoors Basel final, adding to his victory at the 2025 Shanghai Masters. The 27-year-old Monégasque dropped the opening set before mounting a 1-hour and 53-minute comeback against the 24-year-old Czech player.

How Valentin Vacherot Overcame Jiri Lehecka in Basel

The championship match opened with Lehecka dictating the rallies. The Czech competitor conceded just one point across his initial three service games and overwhelmed Vacherot in the opening frame to take it 6-2. Vacherot faced early pressure in the second set, nearly dropping his serve before steadying his baseline game.

Vacherot earned a crucial break at 2-1 in the second set and duplicated that pattern in the decider, breaking Lehecka at 5-3 before converting his first match point. Vacherot finished the match winning 69 percent of his first-serve points and converting four of seven break opportunities, while Lehecka successfully converted three of ten break points.

Road to the Championship and Head-to-Head History

Vacherot navigated a demanding draw to reach the Basel final. His run included a victory over Mariano Navone, a grueling three-hour victory over Spanish prospect Rafael Jódar, a win against former world number four Holger Rune—who has worked his way back following an injury layoff—and an upset victory over American player Taylor Fritz in the semifinals.

With this result, Vacherot leads their career head-to-head series 2–1. Lehecka previously defeated Vacherot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, during the semifinals at Tokyo in early October. Sunday’s final marked Lehecka’s seventh career defeat in a final, extending a streak of five consecutive losses in championship matches following his two tournament victories in 2024.
