Schalke 04 Ends Partnership with Fan Club Association SFCV, Impacting 56,000 Members

FC Schalke 04 will end its long-standing formal cooperation with the Schalker Fan-Club Verband (SFCV) effective June 30, 2027, the club announced on November 5, 2024. The decision marks a significant structural shift for the club’s fan relations, impacting more than 800 fan clubs and roughly 56,000 members currently organized through the association.

Strategic Reorganization of Fan Club Management

The club’s leadership stated that the primary objective of this change is to revitalize the Schalke fan club culture, which officials described as having experienced a decline in recent years. While the club’s total membership has grown from approximately 100,000 in 2011 to roughly 230,000 today, the number of organized fan clubs and the density of members within those groups have trended downward, DerWesten reported.

By assuming direct responsibility for the support and administration of these clubs starting with the 2027/2028 season, Schalke 04 aims to increase its engagement with grassroots members. The club plans to invest in new services, including enhanced personal support, financial assistance, and improved mechanisms for ticket access. A new full-time position for fan club coordination is set to be created, and the existing district leaders will see their cooperation with the club intensified.

Changes to Ticket Distribution and Fan Services

A core component of the transition involves the distribution of tickets. As of July 1, 2027, the club will manage its designated fan club ticket allotments directly. Despite the change in administration, the current quota of approximately 4,000 tickets per home match for fan clubs will remain in place for the 2027/2028 season, as will the existing allotments for away matches.

Additional planned measures include the introduction of a new “Fan-Mobil,” which is scheduled to serve as an on-site contact point for supporters at all away games starting with the first matchday of the 2027/2028 season. The club also intends to launch a participation process later this year to involve fan clubs and the SFCV in the development of these new service offerings.

The Future Role of the SFCV

Despite the termination of the formal cooperation agreement, the club emphasized that the SFCV will remain a partner. The association will continue to represent the interests of fan clubs, particularly regarding legal inquiries and the formation of new fan groups. The club’s board noted that the SFCV’s role in supporting voluntary engagement remains valued, even as the club shifts its primary fan service operations to a direct, in-house model.

For the remainder of the current contract term, club officials confirmed that no immediate changes will affect the daily operations or status of the fan clubs. The transition period is intended to allow for a phased implementation of the new support structures, ensuring that the shift in administrative responsibility does not disrupt the existing fan experience before the 2027 start date.
