Rimini plans €17 million athletics hub and Stadio Romeo Neri upgrades

Rimini is updating its framework of sports works with a plan that touches facilities across the city, riminitoday.it reported. The local administration updated its public works schedule for several key venues, headlined by a €17 million athletics hub and structural overhauls at the Stadio Romeo Neri.

Engineering firm Settanta 7 is scheduled to deliver the initial feasibility study by the end of the year. City officials will then initiate the bureaucratic review in January 2027 to gather regulatory opinions, approve a town planning variant, and place a statutory lien on the land designated for expropriation ahead of the executive design phase and public tender.

Stadio Romeo Neri Renovations

Football fans at the Stadio Romeo Neri can expect significant changes under a municipal-funded plan that the mayor will present before the autumn. Work on the historic venue will proceed in distinct phases. The initial priority centers on the structural rebuilding of the east curve, which will be structurally reinforced, fitted with a roof, and moved closer to the playing surface.

Municipal Administration Plans Arena Modernization Before Basketball Break

Indoor sports facilities are also in line for modernization. The municipal administration expects to approve a preliminary planning document by the end of the year for the local sports arena, known as the palasport. The project targets seating reorganization, space optimization, and the installation of a new video surveillance system. Construction is scheduled during the upcoming mid-season break in the basketball calendar. Additional plans cover upgrades to locker rooms, restrooms, and a prospective climate control system.

Following safety tests concluded in October, the municipal Stadium is slated for handover by November following a €4 million renovation backed by post-pandemic national recovery funds.

Municipal Funds Target Neighborhood Sports Facilities and Baseball Stadium

Additional municipal funds are flowing into secondary and neighborhood sites. Work valued at €360 thousand is already underway at the former Ghigi site, where a subsequent public tender worth €1.5 million is expected in November with the broader goal of opening the center for public use in 2027. At the municipal baseball stadium, a €270 thousand contract targeting the spectator stands, scoreboard, and lighting system is scheduled for completion by April 2027. Neighborhood sports hubs in Via della Fiera, Torre Pedrera, Ina Casa, and Viserba are also slated for targeted maintenance.

Michele Lari, the city’s sports councillor, pointed to the breadth of the municipal program. The upcoming months mark a definitive step forward in upgrading the city’s distributed sports network, Lari stated, noting that projects range from immediate handovers of Pnrr-funded sites like the Stadium to medium-term overhauls such as the Romeo Neri stadium and the Rimini south athletics hub. The councillor emphasized that the total investment across the city over the past five years reaches tens of millions of euros.
