Olympic Judo Master Ariel Sganga Leads Special Training in 9 de Julio Ahead of National Championship

Judo master Ariel Sganga will lead a special training session this Saturday at the Jita Kyoei dojo in 9 de Julio, serving as a key preparation stop ahead of the upcoming National Judo Championship in San Juan, according to diarioel9dejulio.com.ar.

The event is organized by sensei Santiago Falco. Following his work as a referee at the Buenos Aires Games, Falco was selected as the sole arbitration representative for the province of Buenos Aires at the National Evita Games. Upon returning, he arranged the visit from Sganga to test and sharpen regional competitors.

Preparation for National Competition on the Tatami

Saturday’s training schedule at the dojo located at Avenida 25 de Mayo 2181 is split into two distinct blocks. The first session begins at 14:00 local time and focuses on the structural fundamentals of combat, including kumi-kata grips, transitions, combination projection techniques, and tactical match reading.

The second block starts at 17:00 local time, beginning with physical activation before moving into randori practice bouts. These sparring sessions allow athletes to apply the techniques drilled earlier in the afternoon and build competitive pacing.

Olympian and Decorated Athletes Travel to City

Sganga brings an extensive international pedigree to 9 de Julio. He represented Argentina at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, captured a bronze medal at the 2003 Pan American Games, won two Pan American titles, and claimed gold at the 2012 Miami Masters World Championship. Sganga is currently the Director and coach of the National Judo Selection and team.

The visiting master will travel with a group of decorated athletes boasting national and international results. Reiver Alvarenga arrives with a Pan American silver medal and a seventh-place finish at the Cadet World Championships. Uma Valdez holds bronze medals from the Youth Odesur Games and the Pan American Championships, while Maia Panunzio earned silver at the Youth Odesur. Diogo Maccia brings gold from the Buenos Aires Games, and Ale Taira holds a Pan American bronze medal.

Alvarenga, Valdez, Panunzio, and Taira also hold national championship titles. That roster of domestic champions expands to include Delfina Gonzalía, Igna Makaruk, Thiago Aldape, Franco Alegre, Noa Corito, and Ulises Calle.

Public Invited to Watch Free Training Sessions

Falco extended an invitation to judocas from 9 de Julio and surrounding regions to take part in both training blocks. The event is free and open to the general public, offering spectators a chance to observe high-level competitors from the national and South American circuits.

Judo has featured on the Olympic program since the 1964 Games in Tokyo and remains the oldest Asian martial art integrated into the Olympic movement. The discipline blends physical conditioning with strategic execution while emphasizing mutual welfare and discipline.

City Prepares to Host March Championship Tournament

Delegations from Vedia, Junin, Chacabuco, and Chivilcoy have also participated in training sessions with the master. Sganga announced that 9 de Julio will host the Campeonato Apertura Bonaerense in March, a tournament expected to draw judocas from across the country and neighboring nations, establishing the city as the provincial capital of judo for the event.
