NeuroSense Therapeutics has postponed its planned New Drug Submission for its lead amyotrophic lateral sclerosis treatment, PrimeC, with Health Canada to March 2027. The application was previously scheduled for December 2026. The three-month delay stems from the company’s decision to bolster its regulatory filing package with expanded neurofilament light chain biomarker analyses and previously unreleased data from its Phase 2b PARADIGM clinical trial.
Regulatory Filing Adjusted for Biomarker Analysis
The clinical-stage biotechnology company announced the timeline adjustment on November 2, explaining that the extra time allows researchers to incorporate deeper statistical evaluations of neurofilament light chain levels. Neurofilament light chain serves as a primary fluid biomarker for measuring nerve cell damage in neurodegenerative conditions like ALS. In the updated analyses from the PARADIGM trial, patients treated with PrimeC demonstrated greater reductions in neurofilament light chain compared to those receiving a placebo, with the most pronounced treatment effects observed in participants who presented with higher baseline functional scores.
Alon Ben-Noon officer of NeuroSense, emphasized the strategic importance of the additions. NfL is one of the most widely used indicators for measuring nerve cell damage in ALS,
Ben-Noon said, noting that submitting the most complete application possible remains the firm’s top priority.
Health Canada Review Timeline and Commercialization Plans
Company representatives confirmed that Health Canada officials reviewed the revised schedule and indicated no concerns regarding the updated target. The submission follows completed pre-submission procedures, during which the developer coordinated with Canadian regulators on the content and structural layout of the dossier. Once Health Canada formally accepts the New Drug Submission for review, the standard target review window spans approximately 300 days.
An approval from Canadian regulators would mark the first regulatory green light for PrimeC globally, as well as the drug’s initial commercial market application. Current epidemiological figures indicate that approximately 4,000 individuals live with ALS across Canada, with roughly 1,000 new diagnoses recorded annually. Concurrently, the company is maintaining active discussions with potential commercialization partners within the Canadian market.
Parallel Development and United States Phase 3 Preparation
While managing the Canadian regulatory process, NeuroSense is simultaneously preparing for its pivotal Phase 3 PARAGON clinical trial in the United States, having already secured clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to proceed. Leadership continues to hold discussions with FDA regulators to optimize the trial design.
PrimeC is formulated as an oral, extended-release tablet combining fixed doses of two existing FDA-approved medications: the antibiotic ciprofloxacin and the anti-inflammatory drug celecoxib. The candidate is designed to target multiple core mechanisms of neurodegeneration simultaneously, including neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, iron accumulation, and RNA regulation errors.
Financial Outlook and Corporate Risk Factors
In regulatory filings alongside the schedule shift, NeuroSense outlined several operational risks that could impact its trajectory. These include potential delays in completing statistical analyses, unforeseen requests from health authorities for additional trials or data, challenges in securing adequate capital, and difficulties maintaining listing compliance on the Nasdaq stock exchange. The company also noted that commercialization partnerships and trial launch dates remain subject to execution variables.
According to consensus projections tracked by financial analysts, the pre-commercial biotechnology firm does not carry estimated product revenue for 2026, while 2027 revenue is projected at approximately $2.70 million, scaling to roughly $14.62 million by 2028. Earnings per share projections anticipate continued net losses, with estimated per-share deficits of $5.05 for 2026, $4.78 for 2027, and $5.21 for 2028.
