Four para-archers from the Meta department are representing Colombia at the Parapanamerican Archery Championship in Lima, Peru, Diario del Cauca reported. The tournament, which runs from October 19 through October 26, serves as a key qualification event for the 2027 Parapanamerican Games.
Athletes Competing in the Recurve Division
Héctor Julio Ramírez, Jairo Fabián Burgos, Mónica Daza Guzmán, and Mayra Alejandra Mosquera make up the contingent of athletes from the llanos region competing in the recurve archery discipline. They are part of a 10-person national squad selected by the Colombian Archery Federation for the continental championship.
The competitors from Meta form part of the men’s and women’s recurve teams tasked with securing strong finishes against international opponents.
Two-Phase Preparation in Bogotá
Before traveling to Peru, the full 10-athlete Colombian delegation completed two distinct training phases in Bogotá. The first stage involved a camp led by international experts, while the second focused on refining technical execution, strengthening team and pair dynamics, and adapting to official competition equipment.
Beyond the four recurve competitors from Meta, the national team includes athletes in the compound and W1 categories. The compound squad features Antioquia residents Junior Rentería, Ariana Correa, and Yasneide Peñaranda, alongside Risaralda’s Cristian Correa. In the W1 classification, Angie Alarcón of Cundinamarca represents the country in the women’s division, and Miguel Ángel Patarroyo of Boyacá competes in the men’s event.

Colombian Coaches Guide Teams Toward Parapanamerican Goals
The Colombian team operates under the direction of Juan Felipe Mesa, who coaches the recurve division, and Juan Fernando Giraldo, who oversees compound athletes. Under their guidance, the delegation aims to secure results that advance Colombia’s preparations for the upcoming Parapanamerican Games.
With competition concluding on October 26, each performance in Lima directly influences the national team’s standing in the multi-sport qualification cycle.
