Luciana Peña Wins Two Archery Medals and Drives Tolima League Push

Tolima’s archery community is pushing to establish an official departmental league following a standout performance by young athletes at regional competition in Cali. Families, competitors, and coaches are spearheading the accreditation effort to secure formal recognition for the sport across the region.

Regional Success in Cali Drives Accreditation Push

The drive for a departmental league follows strong performances by athletes from the Club Deportivo Black Arrow at the Andean Zone Regional Championship and Regional Final, held from October 21 to October 25, 2026. Among the competitors, 12-year-old archer Luciana Peña Rodríguez captured two medals in the beginner recurve sub-12 female division. Peña Rodríguez secured a bronze medal in the ranking round and a silver medal in the individual head-to-head matches, highlighting the rising talent within the region’s training programs.

The push to form the Liga de Tiro con Arco del Tolima aims to build a structured administrative framework to support this growing talent. Daniel Barbosa and local families are currently gathering the necessary documentation and meeting regulatory requirements to secure official accreditation from the relevant sports authorities.

Building Infrastructure and Securing Institutional Support

Supporters of the initiative emphasize that establishing a formal league will provide critical benefits, including expanded training opportunities, better access to equipment, and structured competition pathways for children and teenagers. Families involved with Club Deportivo Black Arrow point out that archery fosters core personal attributes such as discipline, self-control, patience, and concentration.

While the IMDRI currently provides training spaces at the Parque Deportivo and the local stadium, organizers are calling for broader collaboration. The community has urged the government of Tolima, the Mayor’s Office of Ibagué, educational institutions, and private enterprises to offer institutional backing, coaching courses, sponsorships, and technical support.

Next Steps for Tolima Archery

Daniel Barbosa and local families continue to compile administrative paperwork to meet the legal requirements for departmental league recognition. The accreditation process remains the central focus for the Tolima archery community as they look to build on the competitive foundation established in Cali.
