England’s Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) chief executive Maheta Molango has been named the Football Industry Leader at the Global Football Industry Awards, the organization announced on November 8. The award recognizes his contributions to the sport, the PFA reported.
Molango’s recognition came at the awards ceremony held the previous evening. He was honored for his multifaceted career and leadership within the football industry. The PFA also announced that its Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, Simone Pound MBE, was named Game-Changer at the same event.
A Diverse Career Path
Molango’s journey in football spans multiple roles, from player to executive. He played for several clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Brighton & Hove Albion, Lincoln City, Oldham Athletic, and Wrexham. After retiring as a player, he transitioned to a career in law, working at Baker McKenzie and later at Atletico Madrid, where he was involved in player contracts and transfer negotiations.
In 2016, Molango became the Chief Executive Officer of Mallorca. During his tenure, he led the team through consecutive promotions, returning the club to La Liga. He also oversaw improvements to the club’s financial stability during this period.
