Lee Cheuk Yiu and Jason Gunawan Advance to Korea Open Quarterfinals
Hong Kong badminton players Lee Cheuk Yiu and Jason Gunawan secured their spots in the men’s singles quarterfinals at the BWF Super 500 Korea Open. While the duo advanced, veteran Angus Ng Ka Long saw his tournament run conclude in the Round of 16.
Lee Cheuk Yiu Rebounds Against Hu Zhean
Lee Cheuk Yiu successfully avenged his recent defeat to China’s Hu Zhean, overcoming the 20-year-old in a three-game battle. Just one week after falling to Hu in the Round of 16 at the French Open, Lee dictated the pace to win 21-17, 14-21, 21-7. After a closely contested opening game, Lee pulled away significantly in the decider, securing 11 points to turn a 1-2 deficit into a 12-2 lead. Lee is set to face Wang Po-wei of Chinese Taipei for a place in the semifinals.

Jason Gunawan Overcomes Lee Chia-hao
Jason Gunawan continued his strong season form by rallying from a first-game deficit to defeat Chinese Taipei’s Lee Chia-hao. After losing the opening game 19-21, Gunawan responded with clinical efficiency, winning the second game 21-13. He maintained his momentum in the third, establishing a 14-5 advantage before closing out the match 21-11.
Angus Ng Ka Long Eliminated by Anthony Ginting
Angus Ng Ka Long’s campaign ended in the Round of 16 following a straight-games loss to former world number two Anthony Ginting. Despite a strong start to the tournament, where he overcame sixth seed Koki Watanabe in the opening round, Ng could not find a way past the Indonesian, falling 15-21, 16-21. The result prevents an all-Hong Kong quarterfinal, as Ng and Gunawan were positioned in the same section of the draw.
Hong Kong Players Target Semifinal Spots at Korea Open
The Korea Open represents another opportunity for Hong Kong’s rising talents to prove their standing in the BWF World Tour circuit. Jason Gunawan, who claimed his first Super 750 title at the China Masters in September, faces a stern test against the experienced Ginting. Lee Cheuk Yiu, who finished as the runner-up to Gunawan in that same China Masters event, remains in the opposite half of the draw. Both players are set to compete for semifinal spots.
