Kenneth Anglin wins double titles at Shuttle Showdown 2026

Kenneth Anglin captured the A Division men’s singles title at the Shuttle Showdown 2026, defeating Joel Angus in a three-set final during the nine-day tournament that concluded on October 18.

Anglin Overcomes Angus to Secure Singles and Mixed Doubles Titles

Anglin secured his singles victory by overcoming Angus 13–15, 15–12, 15–12 after dropping the opening set. He later teamed up with Rihanna Rust to capture the mixed doubles crown, defeating Angus and Tahlia Richardson 15–12, 13–15, 15–12 in another tightly contested match.

“Being the A Division champion again feels great. I’ve been winning most of the local tournaments. I think my win rate is about 90 per cent, so I’ve been very successful in competing,” Anglin said.

Rising Youth Talent Threatens Local Dominance

Despite his continued success on the local circuit, Anglin pointed out that the competitive gap is narrowing as younger players improve rapidly. According to Anglin, Daniel Ford, Amir McBean, Matheus Smith, and Samuel Smith possess the capabilities to elevate Jamaican badminton to new heights.

“There are a lot of new players on the scene that are improving at a fast rate, so even though I’m still able to win, they are not far off,” Anglin noted. “And with the right environment, I’m definitely sure they’ll surpass what I’ve been able to achieve.”

Shuttle Showdown Division Winners

The tournament featured 40 events across multiple age groups and skill levels. Securing the women’s singles championship through a 19–17, 15–11 triumph over Katherine Wynter, Tahlia Richardson additionally teamed up with Breanna Bisnott to capture the women’s doubles title within the A Division.

Stephen Lue-Yen achieved a triple crown in the Masters category by securing the men’s singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles championships. Lue-Yen defeated Joslyn Davis 15–10, 15–8 in the singles final, teamed with Johnny Huang to beat Gavin Seeriram and Abdul Freckleton 15–12, 15–11 in men’s doubles, and won the mixed doubles alongside Antoinette Ingleton.

Youth categories showed the depth of the sport's talent pipeline. Ella Belle Palmer swept the Under-15 girls’ events, while Abigail Harvey claimed both the Under-17 and Under-19 girls’ singles titles during the tournament, which ran from October 10 to 18.
