Oldair Zamora Lira, president of the Hidalguense Archery Association, is actively preparing for the annual Torneo de Tiro con Arco, set to take place on November 14-15 in Mineral de la Reforma. The event, described by Zamora as the “annual closing tournament,” will feature participants from across Mexico, including representatives from Nayarit, the farthest confirmed state, and local competitors from Mexico City and the State of Mexico. Approximately 45 local archers have confirmed their participation, according to Zamora, who highlighted the importance of the event as the final competition of the year before the association shifts focus to San Luis Potosí.
The tournament’s preparation has been marked by the return of Montserrat Campos, a veteran archer who last competed a decade ago. Campos, who began her archery journey in 2008 through summer courses and competed for eight years before stepping away due to university commitments, said she has now returned to shooting. “I left after university, got married, and had a child. I returned for a short time, but my son was too young. Now that he’s 10, I hope he’ll join me if he finds the passion,” she said.
Key Participants and Regional Reach
Zamora confirmed that the tournament will draw competitors from multiple regions, with Nayarit representing the most distant state. Local participation from Mexico City and the State of Mexico shows the event's regional importance. The president noted that the competition serves as a platform to “close the year” and “reset for the next cycle,” with San Luis Potosí slated as the next destination.
The event’s venue, the newly established Ciudad Deportiva, has undergone significant changes. Zamora explained that the association moved training operations to the facility due to safety concerns at their previous location near the Casa del Deportista. “Before, we trained beside the Casa del Deportista, but the foot traffic was dangerous,” he said. Despite the move, the Ciudad Deportiva remains incomplete, with the grass installation pending. Zamora mentioned that the issue was raised with Julio Menchaca during the facility’s inauguration, though no resolution has been announced.
Return of a Veteran Archer
Now that he’s 10, I hope he’ll join me if he finds the passion,” she said.
Facility Challenges and Governance
Zamora acknowledged the issue during a conversation with Hidalgo Sport, stating that the problem was brought to the governor’s attention but remains unresolved. “We’ve discussed it, but there’s been no response,” he said.
Torneo De Tiro Con Arco Closes the Year
The Torneo de Tiro con Arco is the annual event that closes the year for the Hidalguense Archery Association. Zamora emphasized its role in “closing the year” and “preparing for the next cycle,” with San Luis Potosí set as the next event.
With 45 local archers confirmed and the return of experienced competitors like Campos, the tournament is being prepared. As the November 14-15 dates approach, the focus remains on the competition itself.
