Luisina Giúdice, a 19-year-old archer from Luján, Argentina, secured the bronze medal in women’s recurve archery at the South American Games (ODESUR) in Santa Fe, El Civismo reported. In recurve competition, targets are positioned 70 meters from the shooting line, and each archer fires 72 arrows across six series, with a maximum of four minutes allowed to complete the best shots in each series; the maximum possible score is 720 points. The medal marked a rapid ascent that began in 2023, and Giúdice now represents the Club Universitario de Arquería (CUDA) in Buenos Aires while training for a tournament in Neuquén province on Dec. 5-6.
Giúdice, who turned 19 on Oct. 22, discovered archery almost by accident while the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic still lingered, joining the Escuelas EDA project where coach Mariano Moro first had her shoot at a target 20 meters away. As her scores improved, the distance progressively increased 10 meters at a time until reaching 60 meters, and she has since competed in the Sub-18, Sub-21 and Senior categories.
From Pandemic-Era Hobby to Competitive Debut
Giúdice was born in the central zone of Luján and began archery in 2023 as a hobby, seeking to add some sporting activity to her life while the pandemic’s shadow remained close. She joined the Escuelas EDA project, where she met her current coach Mariano Moro, and began testing her aim at the Villa San José de los Hermanos Maristas. “At that time, I had no idea that one could reach competitions, but after my coach’s proposal I dared, and that is how I debuted at a competitive level, with a target located 20 meters away,” she recalled. From there, with score requirements increasing, the target moved back 10 meters at a time until reaching 60 meters.
One year after beginning archery, she started competing in the Sub-18 Youth category, followed by Sub-21 and Senior, which is the final category. In her beginnings, Giúdice represented Club Social y Deportivo Flandria, but after deciding to study in Buenos Aires and moving there, she switched to the Club Universitario de Arquería (CUDA), which she represents today.
Bronze at ODESUR: The 70-Meter Challenge
At the ODESUR Games in Santa Fe, Giúdice competed in the recurve discipline, where targets are set 70 meters away. Each archer has 72 arrows to shoot in six series, with a maximum of four minutes to make the best shots at the target in each series, for a maximum possible sum of 720 points. Her teammates on the Argentine team were Alma Pueyo López and Wanda Arca.
Although she has other personal and competitive achievements on her record, the bronze obtained at ODESUR is so far her greatest emotion in the discipline. “When I went up on the podium and the Argentine National Anthem was playing in the background, I felt absolute happiness, a beautiful sensation,” she said. Following Santa Fe, in October she competed in the Argentine Cup in Córdoba province.
Training Without Pause for Neuquén on Dec. 5-6
In the immediate future, Giúdice is training to arrive in top form for a tournament that will take place in Neuquén province between Dec. 5 and 6. To arrive in optimal condition, she trains under experienced instructors Ivana Paz Soldán, who accompanies her on Saturdays at the CUDA facilities, and Mariano Moro, who despite having moved to Mar del Sur continues to advise her on her training plans. When tournaments are national in scope and she must represent Argentina, the national coaches appointed by the Argentine Archery Federation (FATARCO) are Fernanda Faisal and Fernán Cárdenas.
Giúdice does not spare any effort and trains without pause and almost without rest, both at CUDA, at the gym, and even at her godmother’s house. Sundays, however, are days of rest.
International Record: Silver in Iguazú, Sixth in Santiago
Giúdice’s competitive curriculum includes three international participations. In 2024, at Iguazú in Misiones province, in the Sub-18 category at 60 meters, she won the silver medal. In 2025, she participated in the South American Championship in Santiago, Chile, at 70 meters, where she finished in sixth place. And her third participation to date: the ODESUR of this year in Santa Fe.
Dreams of Pan American and Olympic Games
At 19 years old, the shooter aspires first to reach a Pan American Games, which would then allow her to also dream of an Olympic Games and participation in a World Cup alongside the great figures of archery. “I would like to leave an inspiration to get more people to join this sport and not even let the opportunity pass to shoot an arrow once to discover how beautiful this sport is,” she said.
Acknowledgments from Luján to the National Team
In her acknowledgments, Giúdice highlights her coaches Mariano Moro and Paz Soldán, who have always accompanied and encouraged her, as well as the national instructors. She also thanks her family and her boyfriend, who always follows her, as well as friends, the Municipality of Luján, which provided financial support, the Argentine Olympic Committee, ENAR, ODESUR, and the Argentine Athletes’ Commission.
