Lima 2027 Pan American Games schedule released

The XX Pan American Games Lima 2027 will officially open on July 23, 2027, at the Estadio Nacional, bringing roughly 7,000 athletes from 41 countries to Peru for 16 days of competition across 38 sports and 58 disciplines.

Competition Schedule and Venue Allocations

Organizers released the definitive program 435 days ahead of the opening ceremony, establishing a timeline that places the two largest medal-yielding sports on distinct halves of the calendar. Swimming will occupy the first week of competition at the Centro Acuático, running from July 24 to July 29, 2027. Track and field events will take over the second week at the Estadio de Atletismo, scheduled from August 2 to August 7, 2027.

Action begins ahead of the formal opening ceremony. Baseball starts play on Wednesday, July 21, 2027, at the Estadio de Béisbol, followed on July 22 by the debut of cricket at the Pan American Games. The Gobierno del Perú reported that the first medal of the entire multi-sport event will be awarded on Saturday, July 24, in the women’s race walk.

High-Profile Sporting Omissions

The 38-sport roster omits two notable disciplines: basketball and breaking. Basketball was excluded due to an ongoing governance conflict between Panam Sports and FIBA, which had sought to restrict the Pan American tournament to under-21 players. Breaking, which made its debut at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games and featured at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, was also left off the Lima program.

Event planning is spearheaded by the Lima 2027 Organizing Committee, led by Sergio Ludeña Visalot, working alongside Panam Sports and the Instituto Peruano del Deporte to finalize venue infrastructure across the Peruvian capital.

Final Day Medal Decisions and Closing Ceremonies

The final day of competition on Sunday, August 8, 2027, features medal events in eight separate sports prior to the closing ceremony at the Estadio Nacional.
