Breece Hall Cleared to Play for Jets Against Chiefs After Quad Injury

New York Jets running back Breece Hall will play in Sunday’s Week 9 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs after missing several games with a quad injury. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Hall’s return on Friday, a day after Hall stated he expects to be in the lineup.

Jets’ Breece Hall Cleared to Play vs. Chiefs After Quad Injury

Hall sustained the quad injury in Week 3 in Detroit. He was a full participant in practice for the first time on Thursday.

I don’t think people understood how serious my injury was, but it’s all behind us now, Hall said. I’m ready to play.

Hall explained he had been experiencing inflammation and soreness in his quad after workouts, which delayed his return.

It still would be really sore and stiff the day after, Hall said. “So, you know, there’s no point in me having to go play a game and risking reinjury because the position I play is all me being explosive and using my quads, so there’s no point in risking reinjury when I can rest while Braelon Allen [has been] playing well and get back healthy.”

While Hall returns, the Jets’ backfield situation is complicated by Braelon Allen’s strong play. Allen has excelled as the Jets’ lead back over the last four weeks, producing 357 rushing yards, one score, and 64 receiving yards on 83 total touches. Allen’s performance has made a strong case for continued touches even when Hall is healthy.

When asked about the backfield, Glenn declined to specify how he would divide carries between the two running backs. Both guys will play, Glenn stated. The Jets view both Hall and Allen as capable of carrying the load.

That’s something that we’ve talked about ever since [Allen]’s taken over as the starting running back, Glenn said previously. “He’s showing that he has the capability of being the bell cow, and it’s good to have another guy on our team. You know, especially when Breece comes back, that he [Allen] can actually handle a load like that because now you can make sure you can share those responsibilities as far as giving those guys the ball, knowing that Breece is our starter. I mean, I think Braelon did an outstanding job coming in, and I mean really running the ball as hard as he is, trusting the O-line as far as where the holes are going to be, and I think that speaks for itself.”

The Jets’ official website confirmed Hall was closing in on a return for the Week 9 game against the Chiefs. The Jets sit at 2-6 and third in the AFC East under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. The team has struggled with inconsistency and defensive collapses in close games, including a recent three-game losing skid. The return of a healthy Hall, combined with a productive Allen, could boost the Jets’ ground game as they face top AFC contenders. How carries will be split remains unknown.
