Only two out of 79 minors detained following civil unrest in Barcelona on Oct. 24 remain free of judicial precautionary measures, according to figures released by the Tribunal Superior de Justícia de Catalunya. The vast majority of the youths who appeared before the investigating judge face strict supervision terms, while parallel police investigations have targeted organizers of the Blocus communication channels used to coordinate the disturbances.
Court Restrictions Affecting 77 Juveniles
Out of the 79 minors brought before the judiciary in staggered hearings designed to prevent court bottlenecks, five have been placed in detention centers. Another 72 juveniles were released under supervised probation conditions, with 32 of those individuals explicitly banned from attending public demonstrations. Only two minors emerged from the judicial process with no precautionary restrictions whatsoever, the court communications office stated.
Judges addressed the most urgent cases during the initial Sunday and Monday following the October riots, operating under the statutory 48-hour limit for detentions before a formal appearance. The remaining juveniles were called in progressively throughout the subsequent week alongside family members and social workers who evaluated their personal environments.
Parallel Police Action Targeting Group Organizers
While juvenile court proceedings advanced, investigators focused on the administrators who coordinated the Blocus messaging networks used to incite the street disturbances. Two adult suspects have already been ordered held in preventative detention by a judge, and one minor has been placed in a closed juvenile facility in connection with the coordination efforts.
Catalan President Salvador Illa stated on Monday during an interview with Cadena SER that he instructed the regional government’s legal services to evaluate every available option to hold digital platforms and their corporate directors legally accountable. Illa said the regional administration will pursue both corporate and individual liabilities in Spain and across Catalonia regarding the channels that promoted the unrest.
Police Identifications During All Saints Weekend
Ahead of subsequent holiday gatherings, law enforcement deployed specialized units across the city over the All Saints weekend. The operation resulted in zero new arrests during that specific weekend window, though officers formally identified 2,264 individuals as part of ongoing preventive crowd control measures.
