Thom Gicquel Brings World Championship Glory to Cholet for Top 12 Badminton Showdown
Fresh off winning the world championship in mixed doubles, Thom Gicquel is set to play in Cholet this Saturday, October 3, 2026. Gicquel will take to the court at Salle Grégoire alongside his Breton club, Flume Ille Badminton from Saint-Grégoire, to face the Badminton Associatif Choletais in a Top 12 fixture starting at 3:00 PM local time.
World Champion Status Elevates Regional League Match
The fixture marks a milestone for the local club, serving as the first home match of the season for the Choletais team known as the BACH. Admission for spectators is set at €5.
Gicquel secured his world title in late August 2026 alongside partner Delphine Delrue, capturing the mixed doubles crown. While major global tournaments place athletes on international stages, this weekend brings a world champion directly into a French championship gymnasium, offering local fans a look at world-class talent.
International titles contrast with French club commitments
The transition from competing for world titles on the international circuit to playing club matches highlights the structure of European club badminton, where athletes maintain commitments to their local regional teams. His weekend reality remains rooted in the French interclub championship.
The BACH enters the fixture looking to establish momentum after returning to the Top 12 division.
