TSVE 1890 U18 Basketball Team Opens WNBL Season With Two Victories

Bielefeld club TSVE 1890 has opened its new Youth Basketball Bundesliga (WNBL) season with two victories through its first three matches, positioning itself for a push toward the top of the preliminary Northwest group.

Bielefeld Open Season with Dominant Victory Against Osnabrück

Last weekend at the TSVE-Halle, the Bielefeld U18 women’s basketball team secured an 81-34 victory over the Young Panthers Osnabrück/Atlantis cooperation team, holding a 42-21 lead at halftime. Head coach Džejjana Atesürc noted that the squad used its depth and individual matchups across multiple positions to win. The ball always finds the right person, and we keep passing as long as we can, Atesürc said regarding the team’s ball movement.

An opening period score of 14-10 reflected initial nerves before the hosts pulled away. U16 national team player Emilia Atesürc led the standout individual performances for Bielefeld during the blowout win.

Early Schedule Tests Shape Regional Group Standing

The opening month of the WNBL campaign tested TSVE across contrasting scorelines. Two weeks prior to the Osnabrück encounter, the Bielefeld side dropped a narrow 73-71 decision on the road against Hamburg Towers. Coach Atesürc remarked that the team maintained its tactical identity despite facing a physically and athletically imposing opponent.

Between the Hamburg defeat and the home win over Osnabrück, TSVE traveled to SC Rist Wedel and recorded a 95-39 victory. Atesürc noted that despite lopsided final scores in certain fixtures, the intensity of the youth federal league remains a substantial step up from U16 regional competition, featuring heavier physical contact regardless of opponent stature.

TSVE Targets Top Three Finish in Northwest Group

TSVE’s roster spans birth years from 2009—featuring players such as Nina Oberländer, Fenja Dietrich, and Isla Adali—to 2011, including U16 internationals Emilia Atesürc and İrem Erdodu. Coach Atesürc acknowledged the contributions of the younger cohort, stating that they have absorbed significant responsibilities early in the schedule.

The team’s stated objective is a top-three finish in the WNBL preliminary Northwest group, a placement that would secure advancement to cross-group matches against opponents primarily from Berlin and the surrounding region. TSVE continues its league schedule on Saturday with an away fixture against Phoenix Hagen, followed by a home match against VfL Bochum.
