The infield of Gwangmyeong Spdome now features six badminton courts, offering local residents a free trial period that began on Oct. 28, 2026, according to a report by Kyeongin Ilbo.
Redistributing Revenue from Cycle Racing to the Community
Rep. Lim Oh-kyung of the Democratic Party of Korea, representing Gwangmyeong Gap and serving on the National Assembly’s Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, spearheaded the project to open the indoor cycling stadium’s interior space for public recreational use. Kyeongin Ilbo reported that the initiative stems from the rationale that the social burdens created by the local cycle racing business require a corresponding return of benefits to the surrounding community.
Consultations Across Multiple Government Agencies
These multi-agency talks previously enabled the opening of the Cycle Racing Park Sports Center in July 2026, a facility that local residents embraced for its modern amenities and reasonable pricing structure, according to Kyeongin Ilbo.
Planners Review Proposals for Tennis and Futsal Courts
Following the launch of the infield badminton courts, project planners are reviewing additional infrastructure proposals for the Gwangmyeong Spdome grounds. According to Kyeongin Ilbo, current proposals include building outdoor tennis and futsal courts on existing parking lot parcels, alongside indoor screen park golf and table tennis facilities in remaining vacant areas.
Badminton Courts Undergo Reinforcements After Free Trial Phase
The newly opened infield badminton courts will undergo flooring reinforcements and operational adjustments once the initial free trial phase concludes. Kyeongin Ilbo noted that Rep. Lim emphasized the ongoing commitment to formalize these plans, stating that the venue should function as an accessible everyday hub for sports, culture, and leisure for local residents.
