“Estamos en el batallón superior y el camino es el correcto,” stated Nicolás Ripa following a landmark international campaign for Argentine archery.
At the 3D Archery World Championship in Yankton, South Dakota, two athletes hailing from Trevelin represented the Argentina national team in a historic first for the regional sport, according to local media reports. Nicolás Ripa and Maximiliano González, both competing for the Club Arqueros del Carpo, tested their skills against the top international competitors in the United States, demonstrating that the technical level of the region matches global standards.
Nicolás Ripa Secures Eleventh Place in Traditional Archery
Nicolás Ripa delivered a standout performance throughout the tournament, finishing sixth in both preliminary qualification rounds to secure a firm spot in the leading group. During the elimination bracket in the round of 16, Ripa faced Norway’s Harvits. Despite the elimination match loss, cumulative scoring placed Ripa 11th in the overall final classification, marking one of the strongest historical results for traditional archery in Argentina.

Reflecting on the event, Ripa expressed satisfaction with the milestone achieved under the Argentine Archery Federation (FATARCO). “The truth is we are very happy and super gratified to have returned from the United States with the highest participation that a traditional Argentine has had in the history of FATARCO,” Ripa said.
Patagonia Rises as a National Archery Powerhouse
The Patagonian region accounted for a significant portion of the national squad, fielding five of the 15 archers selected for the federation team. Alongside the two competitors from Trevelin, the delegation included two athletes from Puerto Madryn—Carolina Escalada and Angelo Petrelli—and Dani Martínez from Comodoro Rivadavia. Ripa pointed to the 3D Patagonian Zone Honor League, active since 2018, as a catalyst for regional growth and competitive readiness.

Maximiliano González also completed a notable world championship debut in Yankton, finishing 31st overall after showing measurable performance gains during the second day of qualification. Training for both athletes is overseen by coach Víctor Rodríguez, with local preparations supported by regional sports authorities and tourism providers in Trevelin who furnish terrain for technical training.
Next Steps in Training and International Competition
With the Yankton world championship concluded, Ripa and the Patagonian delegation are turning their focus to closing the scoring gap against international leaders. Training adjustments are already underway via a remote program designed by Víctor Rodríguez to prepare regional archers for future international appearances.
