Tomás Ferrándiz family launches campaign for Mexico Judo tournament

Tomás Ferrándiz Joins Argentine National Team for Mexico

At just 12 years old, San Juan judoka Tomás Ferrándiz has claimed the top position in his category’s national ranking, securing a formal selection to represent the Argentine national team at an upcoming Pan American tournament in Mexico.

The international competition is scheduled to run from Nov. 27 to Nov. 29. Ferrándiz has practiced the sport since he was four years old, developing his skills under the guidance of instructors Martín Molinas and Luis Meritello at the FullFitness gym located in Rawson.

Stiff Financial Hurdles for International Travel

To make the trip to Mexico possible, the young athlete’s family must cover international travel expenses, accommodation, and required competition gear.

Among the most substantial costs are two homologated judogis—official competition uniforms—priced at approximately 800,000 Argentine pesos. Flight tickets and lodging add further financial pressure, as those expenses are quoted in US dollars.

Family Launches Fundraising Campaign for Expenses

In response to the mounting expenses, the family launched a fundraising campaign, accepting donations via the digital payment alias tomasjudo, registered under the name Jaime Ferrándiz.

Ferrándiz Trains Intensely Before Domestic Tournaments

The selection brought immense joy to his family, who noted the heavy daily workload required to reach an international standard.

Ferrándiz trains with high intensity, occasionally handling double sessions that combine physical conditioning, technical drills, and sparring matches. Before his scheduled departure for Mexico, the young competitor still faces several domestic commitments, including a tournament in Mendoza in October, the National Judo Championship in San Juan, and the Clausura tournament slated for November.
