The Contreras family established a new standard of what is possible in a single season for baseball-playing brothers during the 2026 season, culminating in William Contreras winning a World Series title and capturing the Fall Classic MVP award with the Milwaukee Brewers. Following a victory, William shared an emotional embrace on the field with his older brother, Willson, and brother, Willmer.
Brothers Share World Series Championships
With Milwaukee clinching the championship, William joined Willson as just the tenth pair of brothers to each win a World Series. Willson earned his title as a rookie with the Cubs in 2016. Reflecting on the dynamic between the two major league standouts, William described his sibling as his role model.
“My brother is my role model. I don’t have many friends. He is my friend. I love him,” William said. “I enjoy all the support he gives me. If I have something to ask someone, I ask Willson.”
Venezuela Secures World Baseball Classic Title in March
Before the 2026 Major League Baseball regular season even began, the brothers shared their first championship of the year. On March 17, both Willson and William represented Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic, helping their national team defeat the United States to capture the title. Brewers teammates Jackson Chourio and Antonio Senzatela also played for the Venezuelan squad. Only Alex Bregman and Luke Gregerson had completed the feat before, with the U.S. team and the Astros in 2017.

Midsummer Classic and Franchise Record-Breaking Runs
The siblings continued their success on July 14 at the MLB All-Star Game. The appearance marked Willson’s fourth career selection and William’s third, making them the fifth pair of brothers to play in the same All-Star Game on multiple occasions, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. During the game, Willson tallied a single off a grounder to right field while William was positioned behind the plate, helping the American League secure a victory.
As the summer schedule progressed, both players anchored their respective clubs. On July 22, Willson and the Red Sox completed a 15-game winning streak that tied an 80-year franchise record, recovering from an early 37-48 start. Willson posted a 1.230 OPS with four home runs during that stretch. Meanwhile, on September 27, William helped the Brewers cross the 100-win threshold for the first time in franchise history, finishing the regular season with 103 victories and a pitching staff that finished the regular season in second place in the Major Leagues in ERA (3.51).
October Postseason Heroics and Historical Catcher Accolades
The brothers extended their production into October by hitting home runs in the same postseason for just the fifth time in baseball history, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Although Willson’s Red Sox were swept in the Wild Card Series by the Yankees, he finished the campaign with a career-best season (27 home runs, .901 OPS), adding a home run in Game 2. William followed shortly after with a go-ahead blast in Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Padres.

William’s postseason performance reached its peak during the World Series. Over five games, the Brewers catcher recorded a 1.037 OPS and hit three home runs. William became the second Latino and Venezuelan catcher to earn the honor, seating him alongside Salvador Pérez in the history books as the eighth catcher overall to claim the World Series MVP award.
