Seahawks Place RB Jadarian Price on IR for at Least Four Games

Seattle Seahawks rookie running back Jadarian Price has been placed on injured reserve with a chest injury, missing at least the next four games. Head coach Mike Macdonald announced the roster move on Saturday, leaving Emanuel Wilson and George Holani to carry the backfield load against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Jadarian Price Lands on Injured Reserve After Chest Injury Aggravation

Seattle Seahawks first-round draft pick Jadarian Price will miss Sunday s game against the Los Angeles Chargers and at least the following three contests after being placed on injured reserve. The rookie running back initially suffered a chest injury during a 31-7 win against the Arizona Cardinals on September 20, 2026. Though he returned to play in a Week 3 loss to the Washington Commanders, he re-aggravated the injury during practice on Wednesday.

Head coach Mike Macdonald addressed the team’s depth ahead of Sunday s matchup at Lumen Field, praising the rookie while confirming the IR placement.

By no means is this JD’s fault or anything like that. This is what happens in football. Unfortunately, injuries happen. He can’t control these things. He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do since he got here. He’s had a great attitude. He’s been a great teammate. He has a great future. He’s going to play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is, and we move forward. I don’t think there’s any big picture things.

Through his first three professional games, Price rushed for 119 yards on 28 carries, averaging 4.3 yards per attempt with four receptions for 21 yards. However, his early career has also been hampered by ball-security issues, including lost fumbles in each of his past two outings. Macdonald noted that Price left Seattle’s victory against Arizona with what the team called a chest injury before clarifying the next day that it was a shoulder issue and minor. Price also missed a significant stretch of training camp with upper-leg soreness and did not appear in any preseason games.

Emanuel Wilson and George Holani Step Into Backfield Rotation

With Price sidelined, the Seahawks turn to Emanuel Wilson and George Holani to shoulder the rushing load. Wilson has recorded 32 rushing attempts this season, surpassing Price for the team lead in carries, though his efficiency has stood at 3.4 yards per attempt across his touches. Wilson previously racked up 92 yards on 21 attempts against the Cardinals before being kept in check against Washington with 14 rushing yards on nine carries.

Holani provides an option in the passing game after catching five passes for 48 yards in the Week 3 loss in Washington, in addition to contributing three carries for 10 yards. Macdonald commended Holani’s contributions in the checkdown game.

“How (Holani) played with the ball after it was delivered is really important. I thought he did a good job maximizing yardage in the checkdown game.”

Wilson acknowledged the shift in personnel with a pragmatic outlook.

“It’s next-man up. Not trying to have that mentality, but it just is what it is in this business. And really, we’re just going to go out there and do what we got to do to get the job done.”

Seattle Signs Velus Jones Jr. to Active Roster

To bolster backfield depth behind Wilson and Holani, Seattle signed running back Velus Jones Jr. off the practice squad to the 53-man active roster. Jones previously rushed for 32 yards on four carries with the team last season after joining the practice squad in late October, and he was elevated in Weeks 1 and 3 to play solely on special teams. The Seahawks additionally elevated two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs and safety Maxen Hook from the practice squad for Sunday’s game against Los Angeles.

Meanwhile, running back Zach Charbonnet returned to practice for the first time since tearing his ACL in January. His return to practice opened a 21-day window for the team to activate him from the physically unable to perform list, making Week 5 the earliest he becomes eligible to play in games.

“Zach looks fantastic. There’s a process to get him physically and mentally ready to go. We understand that, and we’ll work with him and make sure he feels great when the time comes for him to come back.”
