Rimini opens new basketball court at Parco Spina Verde in Miramare

Rimini has officially opened a renovated basketball playground at Parco Spina Verde in the Miramare neighborhood, transforming an area previously occupied by a soccer pitch into a modern community athletic space funded by the Italian Ministry of the Interior and led by local officials alongside Carlton Myers.

Ministry of Interior Funds Parco Spina Verde Court

The rebuilt basketball court at Parco Spina Verde, also known as Parco Migani on Via Mosca, carries a total cost of 125,000 euros. The funding originates from the Ministry of the Interior via a fund dedicated to strengthening urban security initiatives. The municipal in-house company Anthea managed all phases of the design and execution. The project replaced a soccer pitch, reconfiguring the layout to introduce a regulation-sized outdoor basketball court while relocating the football goals to an adjacent grass pitch.

Mayor and Carlton Myers Open New Playground

Mayor of Rimini Jamil Sadegholvaad led the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside councilors Anna Montini and Mattia Morolli. They were joined by Carlton Myers, who tested out the new hoops during an opening shooting session organized in collaboration with Miramare Basket. The playground sits in an area featuring children’s play equipment and a dedicated dog enclosure accessible from several surrounding streets.

Concrete Slab and Acrylic Resin Form Court Surface

The basketball court measures a regulation 28 by 15 meters, surrounded by a two-meter safety perimeter. Its playing surface consists of a reinforced concrete slab finished with non-slip acrylic resins, complete with slopes and drainage for water runoff. Single-cantilever steel poles support the hoops. Access to the enclosure runs through a 1.5-meter-wide draining concrete walkway flanked by player benches.

LED Floodlights Improve Park Security and Visibility

Municipal planners prioritized public safety and visibility when drafting the redevelopment plan. The lighting overhaul included four new LED light poles across the sports zones, including two powerful new floodlights dedicated to the basketball court. This setup illuminates the playing area evenly during evening hours, eliminating dark corners in the park and improving the perception of security. Meanwhile, the adjacent grass football pitch measures approximately 25 by 15 meters and now features two new steel goals.

Environmental Preservation and Future Landscaping

Construction crews completed the project without damaging any of the established ornamental greenery or trees surrounding the sports area. These trees function as a natural boundary while providing shade and freshness during the summer months. Anthea carried out extraordinary maintenance work on shrubs and trees and installed new urban furniture around the perimeter. Two new linden trees will be planted near the playground in the coming days.
