Genoa and Cisalfa Sport Inaugurate Basketball Court at Giardini Buonvicini

The city of Genoa and Cisalfa Sport have inaugurated a fully refurbished basketball playground at Giardini Buonvicini in the San Teodoro district, transforming a public green space into an art-infused community sports hub.

Cisalfa Sport Executes Urban Upgrade in Genoa

The renovation project stems from the “Sport & Sociale 2025” research sponsor initiative launched last year by the Municipality of Genoa. Cisalfa Sport secured the technical sponsorship to execute the urban upgrade in an area heavily frequented by neighborhood residents and nearby schools. Before the official handover ceremony, streetball artists Vinny Vince and The Real Streetball led attendees through pickup games, 1vs1 challenges, and 3vs3 and 5vs5 matches accompanied by music. Dignitaries present included Massimo Ferrante, Genoa’s city councillor for public works, maintenance, and strategic infrastructure; Lara Nozza, marketing manager for Cisalfa Sport; and Michele Colnaghi, president of Municipio II Centro Ovest, alongside local council members and community association representatives.

SAB Project Designs Sea-Inspired Visual Identity

Prior to the aesthetic overhaul, the Public Works and Maintenance Department of the Municipality of Genoa carried out structural foundation repairs and restoration work. Following those repairs, SAB Project (Street Art Ball Project) designed a visual identity that pays homage to Genoa’s connection to the sea. The surface features essential shapes, bright tones, stylized waves, stars, and cosmic motifs intended to break down traditional boundaries in sport. Developed alongside ONElabMilano as part of a format combining public sports infrastructure recovery with local community engagement, the artwork guides players across the court to discover new spatial challenges.

Official Remarks on Public-Private Collaboration

Councillor Massimo Ferrante framed the project as proof of the municipal administration’s ability to partner with private entities for the public good. Ferrante noted that over the past year, the city has successfully opened new outdoor basketball areas at Giardini Lamboglia in Marassi and Giardini “Albero del Ciao” in Biscione following community consultations. Alberto Fiasconaro, marketing director for Cisalfa Group, explained that making sport more accessible involves investing in everyday public spaces that encourage shared physical activity. Meanwhile, Municipio II Centro Ovest Michele Colnaghi thanked Cisalfa Sport, municipal officials, councillor Habili Medina, and Associazione RTM for advocating the renovation, emphasizing that Mura degli Angeli and Giardini Buonvicini serve as vital gathering points for local youth and neighborhood associations.
