Campus Leadership Opens Tournament at Linggu Temple Gymnasium
University Party Committee Deputy Secretary and President Wu Bingcheng attended the opening ceremony alongside campus leadership, standing committee members, and department heads. The event operated under the banner of “Seven Decades Riding the Wind,” serving as an athletic prelude to the institution’s upcoming 70th anniversary celebrations.
Following the national anthem, President Wu stepped onto the court to toss the ceremonial tip-off for the opening match. The tournament’s referee representative, Zhang Boyang, and student athlete representative, Zhu Ruiying, delivered oaths on behalf of all participating officials and competitors.
Faculty Roster Faces Specialized Student Lineups
The opening fixture pitted a faculty representative squad against a combined student team in a multi-format showcase. The student side rotated personnel across quarters, featuring a coeducational roster of specialized basketball majors from the athletic training program for the opening two quarters, followed by the reigning men’s division champion graduate student team for the third and fourth quarters.
The faculty lineup featured competitive depth, drawing players with backgrounds in professional athletic squads alongside current physical conditioning coaches from provincial elite training programs. Organizers also featured Nanjing Radio and Television broadcaster Ding Zhe to handle live play-by-play duties inside the arena.
Olympic champion and table tennis/badminton school party committee secretary and dean Lu Chunlong addressed the assembled crowd, drawing on his own competitive background to encourage participants to compete aggressively while respecting their opponents.
Student host Xia Yuanran conducted brief on-court interviews during the afternoon, capturing remarks from attendees regarding tournament favorites and greetings for the school’s milestone anniversary. The program featured performances from multiple campus divisions, including a mixed dance routine by the graduate work department, a precision basketball drill display by the athletic training school, and lion dancing alongside competitive cheerleading routines from the martial arts and arts faculty.
University organizers noted that the tournament functions as a central component of campus cultural programming leading into the anniversary. The Communist Youth League committee plans to coordinate with various departments and colleges to roll out additional student activities designed to encourage widespread participation across the academic community.
