„Bei einer Mannschaft wie Bayern ist die Lust mitentscheidend, zusammen etwas Großes zu erreichen. Und darauf hat der Trainer einen Rieseneinfluss,“ sagte Max Eberl über die Verfassung des FC Bayern München bei seinem Amtsantritt.”
Max Eberl kritisiert Thomas Tuchels Arbeit beim FC Bayern München
FC Bayern Sportvorstand Max Eberl has delivered a sharp assessment of the club’s condition under former head coach Thomas Tuchel, describing the atmosphere within the team during his arrival in March 2024 as marked by lethargy and heaviness. In an interview published in the club’s official member magazine, Eberl detailed his early impressions of the squad during Tuchel’s tenure, which lasted from March 2023 to June 2024.

Upon taking office in the spring of 2024, Eberl recalled walking into the professional team’s headquarters and immediately sensing a pervasive weight. „As a team like Bayern, the desire to achieve something great together is decisive. And the coach has a huge influence on that,“ Eberl told the club magazine. When he visited the team house for the first time after starting his role, he thought to himself: „What kind of lethargy. Like a blanket of heaviness.“””
Vincent Kompany Restores Harmony in the Dressing Room
Eberl contrasted the previous atmosphere directly with the current climate under Tuchel’s successor, Vincent Kompany. The Sportvorstand credited the Belgian manager with completely revitalizing the squad and restoring joy to the club environment, noting that many of the players remain the same but appear entirely transformed under new leadership.
„People, we are at FC Bayern Munich! We can become champions every year, we must have joy,“ Eberl said. „Vincent Kompany has completely revived that. Many players are the same — but they look like they’ve been swapped out.“””
The critique adds to a series of internal evaluations concerning Tuchel’s time in Munich. Club executives, including honorary president Uli Hoeneß and supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, have previously discussed atmospheric friction surrounding the team during the 2023–24 season.
From Contract Talks to the Appointment of Kompany
Despite the existing tensions, Eberl had initially attempted to continue working with Tuchel beyond the 2023–24 campaign after the club announced a mutual agreement to part ways. That effort followed rejections or deadlocks in pursuit of alternative candidates including Xabi Alonso, Julian Nagelsmann, and Ralf Rangnick. When discussions to retain Tuchel ultimately fell through, Eberl turned to the former Burnley manager in the summer of 2024.
