Lai Chau Provincial Youth, Junior and Children Badminton Tournament Opens

Physical education and sport play a crucial role in improving health, developing physical condition, and building willpower among younger generations, stated Tran Van Cong, deputy director of the Lai Chau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and head of the tournament’s organizing committee, adding that the event serves as a healthy and rewarding training ground for athletes to interact, learn, and perfect their skills while discovering and encouraging promising young talents for high-performance sports in the province. The Lai Chau Provincial Youth, Junior, and Children Badminton Tournament officially opened on October 17, 2026. The two-day event runs through October 18, 2026, drawing participants from across the province.

Tran Van Cong, deputy director of the Lai Chau Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and head of the tournament's organizing committee, delivered the opening remarks. The competition gathered 20 teams and 148 athletes representing 38 communes, wards, and provincial departments. Officials distributed flowers and commemorative gifts to competing delegations during the opening ceremony.

Tournament Structure and Age Divisions

Athletes compete across five distinct age categories: 7-10 years; 11-12 years; 13-14 years; 15-16 years; and 17-18 years. The schedule features boys’ singles, girls’ singles, boys’ doubles, and girls’ doubles events. Competitors in the youngest division, 7-10 years, participate exclusively in boys’ singles and girls’ singles matches. The organizing committee structured the tournament draws to align with official regulations, ensuring fair competition and sportsmanship among the youth participants.

The competition serves multiple developmental and civic purposes in Lai Chau. Organizers scheduled the event to celebrate major national and provincial holidays for 2026 while aligning with the Action Month for Children. The tournament also advances the “National Movement for Physical Training in the example of the great President Ho Chi Minh,” establishing an active environment for young athletes to hone their skills.

Talent Scouting and Awards Structure

Beyond recreational health benefits, the provincial tournament functions as a talent pipeline for high-performance athletics in Lai Chau. Organizers design the matches to spot promising young players who can eventually strengthen the province’s competitive sports squads. Referees and committee members maintain strict judging standards to ensure objectivity and fair play throughout the fixtures.

At the conclusion of the tournament on October 18, 2026, the organizing committee will distribute the championship trophy alongside general classification awards for first, second, and third place. In total, 48 prizes—comprising first, second, and third-place prizes alongside gold, silver, and bronze medals—will be awarded to the top-performing athletes.
