Girona FC removed the methacrylate glass panels from the away section at Estadi de Montilivi following criticism from traveling supporters over obstructed visibility, local media reported.
Away Section Sightlines Restored at Montilivi
The transparent barriers had originally been installed following past crowd incidents involving supporters of Feyenoord and Espanyol. Travelers in this start of the season in Segunda pointed to the panels as an obstacle to viewing the pitch, arguing that the shields created an unfair disparity in treatment compared to home fans. The club acted quickly to dismantle the front barrier, drawing praise from supporter organizations.
“We must congratulate Girona FC for dignifying the away section by removing the front panel that caused so many visibility problems for fans who deserve the same treatment as locals, just as we ask for when we visit other stadiums,” the Federation of Penyes stated on social media.
Gerard Piqué Watches Andorra from the Stands
Andorra owner and majority shareholder Gerard Piqué attended the fixture in person, maintaining his usual routine for his club’s matches. Before kickoff, Piqué walked the pitchside grass, chatting quietly with members of the visiting delegation and posing for photographs with local supporters in the lower grandstand.

During the match, Piqué moved to the Montilivi box alongside fellow Andorra representatives, Girona president Delfí Geli, and shareholder Pere Guardiola. Piqué stood up repeatedly to contest refereeing decisions, notably protesting an early foul whistled against Andorra that interrupted a promising counterattacking opportunity.
Mascots and Matchday Atmosphere
Pre-match activities outside the stadium featured a joint appearance by opposing club mascots. Tamarro, representing Andorra, joined Girona mascot Mosca Sisa at the Fan Zone esplanade to entertain younger attendees. Unsettled weather forecasts failed to materialize, leaving dry conditions for the kickoff.
Match Officials and Next Fixtures
Girona continues its league campaign following the fixture adjustments at Montilivi, while Andorra prepares for its next Segunda División encounter on the upcoming matchday schedule.
