Manager Johan Plat criticizes referee decisions over missed points

Manager Johan Plat has launched a scathing critique of match officials, telling Omrop Fryslân that erratic refereeing has cost his side crucial points for the third or fourth time this season.

The Catalyst: A Soft Sending-Off

The latest controversy hinges on a tense duel between Bouah and Meerdink. Plat argued that Meerdink initiated the contact by pulling Bouah first, rendering the subsequent tumble far too soft to justify a red card.

“Bouah wordt eerst getrokken door Meerdink en er is niks aan de hand,” Plat stated, insisting the challenge warranted neither a yellow nor a red card.

Weighing the Penalty Claims

While the manager conceded that a penalty could arguably be awarded for a later head-height challenge during the same sequence, he maintained that officials are applying a glaring double standard.

Contrasting the Sittard Non-Call

To underscore his point, Plat contrasted the decision with a previous away fixture against Fortuna Sittard. During that match weeks prior, Nicolas Binder suffered a blow to the head that officials chose to ignore entirely.

“Hij schampt wel zijn hoofd, maar het moment was veel korter en minder heftig dan bij Binder,” Plat noted, arguing that referees must maintain a single, predictable standard of adjudication.

Tangible Damage to the League Table

Those disputed rulings have left deep marks on the club’s league campaign. Plat calculated that erratic on-field assessments and VAR decisions have directly stripped his squad of results across multiple fixtures.

“Dit is de derde of vierde keer, anders hadden we gewoon in de middenmoot gestaan,” he remarked, pointing out that his team would otherwise be sitting comfortably in the middle tier of the standings.
