Girona FC currently sits seventh in the Segunda División standings with 15 points, resting just outside the promotion play-off spots after splitting points in a recent draw against Tenerife at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium. Manager Quique Álvarez’s squad aims to reverse their recent inconsistency during a vital upcoming home stretch at Estadi de Montilivi, where they will host FC Andorra and Celta Fortuna on consecutive Sundays.
Montilivi Fortification Target for Quique Álvarez
The Catalan club’s path back toward the top of the table relies heavily on turning their home ground into an unyielding fortress. Through the opening stages of the campaign, Girona has posted a mixed home record at Montilivi, securing two victories against Las Palmas (5-2) and Albacete (2-0), two draws against Leganés (1-1) and Mallorca (0-0), and a single defeat against Castellón (1-2). These results currently position the club as the fifth-best home team in the division.
By comparison, league leaders Almería have built their promotion charge on a flawless home record at the Estadio de Juegos Mediterráneos, capturing 15 of their 21 total points on home soil under manager García Pimienta. Co-leaders Eibar have similarly dominated at Ipurua, dropping only nine points with three wins and one defeat.

Scoring Output Meets Defensive Stas
Despite boasting one of the most productive attacks in the Segunda División—trailing only Eibar with 19 goals and Almería with 16—Girona’s 15 goals scored across all competitions have not fully translated into a higher league position due to defensive lapses away from home. Colombian forward Asprilla leads the team with five goals, followed by Abel Ruiz and Carles Pérez with two each. Additional goals have come from Vladyslav Vanat, Izan González, Fran Beltrán, Donny van de Beek, Jastin, and Holmes Junior.
During their recent outing in Tenerife, Asprilla opened the scoring within the first four minutes before the team surrendered its advantage, narrowly escaping defeat when an late goal by Enric Gallego was overturned for offside. Álvarez’s side is now tasked with replicating the defensive solidity that yielded consecutive home clean sheets against Albacete and Mallorca earlier in the season.
Upcoming Fixtures at Montilivi
Girona faces FC Andorra this Sunday at 18:30 local time (16:30 UTC), followed by a fixture against Celta Fortuna on Sunday of the following week at the same time. Securing all six points from these consecutive home matches would allow the club to narrow the six-point gap separating them from Almería and Eibar at the top of the table, depending on results elsewhere in the division.
