Fanfan Wangata Outlines CNSS Continental Campaign

CNSS secures continental berth as club targets national pride

The women’s basketball team of the Caisse Nationale de Sécurité Sociale has officially qualified for the final phase of the Women’s Basketball League Africa after navigating the Zone 4 preliminary tournament. Following the team’s qualification, Fanfan Wangata outlined the squad’s progression from a domestic championship side to a national representative on the continental stage.

From domestic dominance to continental representation

For the Congolese champions, the continental campaign represents an expanded mission. Wangata noted that the club initially travelled to the tournament with the goal of institutional representation before their ambitions grew alongside their victory tally on the court.

“We play all the matches to defend first the colors of the National Social Security Fund,” Wangata said. “We arrived there by taking the champions of Congo, and then we said to ourselves: we are now going to defend more than the colors of the National Social Security Fund, the colors of the DRC. And here we are.”

That qualification follows a domestic campaign that saw the team claim the 43rd edition of the Coupe du Congo in Kinshasa and an undefeated run in the Kinshasa provincial basketball league. The club subsequently held an extraordinary evaluation meeting on October 6, 2026, at the CNSS headquarters in the Gombe commune to review those domestic successes and map out preparations for the regional qualifiers.

Tactical adjustments and upcoming fixtures

Looking ahead to the final phase, club leadership acknowledges that the technical standard will increase significantly. Rather than relying on past results, the CNSS management intends to refine its tactical approach and reinforce the roster.

“I think we are going to go with the same determination,” Wangata stated. “We are going to try to strengthen the team further, work with the technical staff. And we say that with the cohesion we have, we plan to give good results to the Democratic Republic of Congo.”

The Zone 4 preliminary matches took place in Congo-Brazzaville between October 24 and October 28, 2026, where Wangata noted the overall competitive intensity across both the men’s and women’s tournaments. With the regional hurdles cleared, the club’s ultimate objective remains securing a strong performance at the Women’s Basketball League Africa final phase, scheduled to take place in Cairo in December 2026.
