Daniil Medvedev secured his qualification for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin after defeating France’s Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Vienna ATP 500 on October 30, 2026. The victory guarantees the player his seventh appearance in eight years at the season-ending championship, which runs from November 15 to November 22 under the roof of the Inalpi Arena. The 30-year-old is ranked number 5 in the world ranking.

The straight-sets win in Vienna contrasted sharply with Medvedev’s bruising second-round encounter against Cameron Norrie, where the Russian player vented his frustration on the court surface over court speed. Against Mannarino, who is 38 years old and ranked number 73 in the ATP ranking, Medvedev dropped just eight points on his first serve and converted 11 break opportunities while firing 26 winners. The match lasted one hour and 34 minutes, with Medvedev maintaining a 77 percent success rate on points won behind his first delivery and conceding zero break points. Mannarino came into the match after springing a surprise against Jakub Mensik.

The victory extends Medvedev’s recent surge since the US Open, where he captured titles in Hangzhou and Almaty alongside semifinal runs in Beijing and Shanghai. The 30-year-old Moscow native has now won 18 of his last 20 matches, advancing to his fifth semifinal and equaling Alexander Zverev’s mark of 10 tour-level semifinals in 2026. Medvedev also continues to aspire to revalidate his crown in Vienna, where he triumphed in the 2022 edition.
Field Takes Shape for the Season Finale in Turin
With his quarterfinal win, Medvedev locks down the fourth direct qualification spot for the year-end championships in Turin. He joins Alexander Zverev, Carlos Alcaraz, and Ben Shelton in the field. Jannik Sinner also qualified initially but relinquished his spot due to a knee injury. Four places remain up for grabs, currently provisionally held by Flavio Cobolli, Arthur Fils, Frances Tiafoe, and Rafa Jódar, though the latter faces ranking pressure from Alex de Miñaur.

Medvedev previously claimed the ATP Finals trophy in London in 2020. His return to the tournament follows an absence from the previous edition. The pair met four times prior to October 2026, including Medvedev’s straight-sets victory at the Libéma Open in June 2025 and a Wimbledon encounter in July 2023, alongside a meeting at the China Open in September 2024 and another match at the Libéma Open in June 2023.
Upcoming Semifinal Matchup in Vienna
Medvedev advances to the penultimate round at the Erste Bank Open for the 61st time in his career, building on a milestone 100th career quarterfinal appearance reached earlier in the week against Norrie.
