Coupe de France: Boulogne Opens Second Round Against STB Le Havre

Boulogne Open Second Round Against Le Havre

The French men’s Coupe de France basketball tournament resumes on Monday evening as Boulogne Côte d’Opale Basketball hosts STB Le Havre in the opening fixture of the second round. Tip-off is scheduled for the venue in Boulogne, where the home side enters the matchup with a built-in scoring advantage.

Because Boulogne competes in Nationale 1 (NM1) while Le Havre plays one division higher in ELITE 2, tournament regulations award the lower-tier club a seven-point head start. Boulogne advanced to this stage by defeating Val de Seine 81-63 in the opening round. Le Havre secured its progression through a much tighter contest, edging Rouen Métropole Basket 74-73 in another matchup between ELITE 2 opponents.

Fifteen Matches Fill Five Dates Across October

Monday’s single fixture launches a busy second round consisting of 15 matches spread across five dates, running through November 1. While the opening night features just one game, the bulk of the action picks up on Tuesday, October 6, with a heavy slate involving multiple clubs from the third tier.

Tuesday’s schedule showcases three all-NM1 confrontations where no handicaps apply. LyonSO plays host to Besançon, Rennes welcomes Fougères, and Berck matches up against Orchies. At the same time, several other NM1 sides will attempt to pull off upsets against higher-division opponents under the tournament’s handicap system.

Handicap System Creates High-Stakes Upside for NM1 Clubs

Lower-tier clubs hosting elite opposition receive scoring advantages designed to level the playing field. Tarbes-Lourdes welcomes Betclic ELITE side Élan Béarnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez with a 14-point cushion at the opening tip. Challans receives an identical 14-point advantage when hosting Boulazac.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Tours travels to face Blois with a seven-point head start, while Angers starts with seven points against Caen. Not every team takes the floor this week, however. Toulouse must wait until Tuesday, October 13, to host the Limoges CSP, entering that contest with a 14-point handicap against the Betclic ELITE visitors.
