LogroBasket Logi7 opened its Segunda FEB Grupo B campaign with an 81-67 away victory against Ciudad Molina in Murcia, while local rival Reina Proteínas Clavijo suffered an 81-63 defeat at home against Prat at the Palacio de los Deportes, larioja.com reported.
Away Success in Murcia
LogroBasket Logi7 secured the early-season road win by outlasting Ciudad Molina in a hard-fought contest. Coaches often emphasize the unique difficulty of securing victories away from home in Segunda FEB, making the Murcian road win a valuable start to the league schedule.
LogroBasket coach Nacho Arbués acknowledged the toughness of the host side after the final buzzer. “Molina held onto the game with tooth and nail and competed very well,” Arbués said with a smile. “We relied on quality at certain moments until the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the last, when we found the game we lacked and grabbed that small advantage that eventually weighed on them mentally.”
Arbués pointed to defensive resilience as the necessary equalizer when outside shooting falters. “The key for us is to achieve that on days when we are not consistent in shooting, we are consistent in other facets of the game. We know we have that quality, especially defensively. It was key at the end that we were better at the back and closed out the defensive rebound.”
Home Struggles in Logroño
At the Palacio de los Deportes, Reina Proteínas Clavijo experienced a vastly different opening night. Prat controlled the contest from the outset to hand the home side an 18-point loss.
Clavijo coach Aitor Fantova offered a blunt assessment of his team’s performance without sugarcoating the result. “Prat was much better in all facets of the game. They swept us off the floor,” Fantova said. “I want to apologize to the fans and give thanks because they haven’t stopped cheering, but the team has been very bad, well below the level of the competition. We have to do self-criticism, me first, because I am the one who built the team both in signings and in the game model, in order to go to Huesca with options to compete and win.”
Fantova highlighted structural and execution failures across the board. “We are super far from what my head would like. They have dominated us in all actions: rebounding, defensive intensity, running the floor. It has given the feeling at times that they were experts in the league against newcomers. We didn’t pass the ball to each other. I’m not saying the team didn’t have energy, but it never knew how to focus it and I didn’t know how to redirect it,” he added.
