Organizing a national championship is an immense pride for our club, our city, and our region, the organizing committee of Le Volant Bisontin said after securing the tournament.
France’s premier domestic badminton tournament is heading back to the Doubs department. The French Badminton Federation announced on Monday, October 12, that the Palais des Sports Ghani-Yalouz in Besançon will host the 2027 French Elite Badminton Championships from February 19 to 21, 2027, according to regional reporting by France 3 Régions.
The three-day competition marks a return to the city five years after Besançon previously hosted the elite national showcase. Local organizers expect the event to draw capacity crowds, with the venue offering more than 4,000 spectator seats for supporters, families, and curious fans.
Le Volant Bisontin Takes on the National Spotlight
The staging of the tournament has been handed to Le Volant Bisontin, a club founded in 1983 that now boasts more than 340 licensed members. The club currently fields two teams competing in Nationale 2 and Nationale 3 divisions.
Hosting such a major event on Besançon soil is a monumental collective challenge, the club’s organizing committee stated. Organizers are promising an exceptional roster of athletes and a unique experience designed to thrill both seasoned badminton enthusiasts and first-time spectators alike.

Matches will run across three days as the country’s top players battle for national titles in five official categories: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles.
World Champions Headline the Besançon Entry List
Organizers have already confirmed the anticipated participation of several headline players, including reigning world champions who captured global titles in India in August 2026. The roster is set to feature singles standout Alex Lanier, alongside doubles specialists Thom Gicquel and Delphine Delrue.
Lanier enters the cycle carrying the momentum of his world title campaign, anchoring a tournament field expected to showcase the highest level of domestic play. The presence of these international medalists guarantees high-flying encounters across all five discipline draws at the Palais des Sports.
While tournament dates and venue logistics are firmly established, ticket sales for the February 2027 event have not yet opened to the public.
