Bages Badminton club hosts youth tournament and fundraiser

Seventy young athletes converged on the halle aux sports for the Bages Badminton Club’s opening youth tournament of the season, bringing together competitors from across three departments for 154 matches.

Podiums and Local Standouts at the Bages Tournament

Players representing the host club secured multiple podium finishes across various categories during the Saturday competition. Joan Trey Lacoste claimed the top spot in the intergender singles for the youngest division, while Leandre Brac finished second in the minime men’s series 2 singles event. Céleste Lafitte matched that result by taking second place in the minime women’s singles.

In the highly competitive minime men’s series 1 singles, Kenzo Colnot and Edgar Dupont Vitau shared the podium by capturing third place. The tournament drew competitors not only from local ranks but also from clubs across the Pyrénées-Orientales, Aude, and Hérault regions, providing many newcomers with their first official taste of tournament structure and referee oversight.

Charity Fundraiser Supporting Cancer Research

Beyond the competitive draws, the tournament raised at least 350 euros for the Ligue contre le cancer des Pyrénées-Orientales as part of the ongoing “Octobre rose” solidarity initiative. Club president Alain Colnot noted that donations and contributions from participants, families, and spectators drove the fundraising effort throughout the day.

The event ran smoothly thanks to a dedicated crew of volunteers who handled court setup, equipment management, and the refreshment stand. Organizers also extended formal thanks to local partners and the town hall for their ongoing municipal backing.

Official Training and Practical Certification

The tournament served an educational purpose for match officials as well, featuring practical training alongside the youth matches. Patrice Morat, representing the club of Torreilles, advanced his referee certification by completing a practical stage and validating his theoretical requirements under the supervision of Adrien Moglia, a certified regional referee for the club.
