Vietnamese athletes competing at the ASIAD 20 have secured multiple medals across martial arts, rowing, shooting, and eSports disciplines, establishing a strong presence near the top of the tournament standings through September 25.
Karate and Wushu Medals Lead Vietnam’s Early ASIAD Campaign
The standout gold medal achievement for the Vietnamese delegation arrived on the tatami through the women’s team kata squad. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Tram, Bui Ngoc Nhi, and Hoang Thi Thu Uyen synchronized their movements to secure the top podium finish in karate. Bui Ngoc Nhi also added to her individual tally by capturing a bronze medal in the women’s individual kata event.
Combat sports continued to yield hardware for the nation in wushu. Dinh Van Tam battled through the men’s 56kg fighting division to claim a silver medal. In the broader wushu program, several athletes secured bronze medals, including Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy in the women’s 60kg category, Hua Van Doan in the men’s 60kg division, and Nguyen Khac Kien in the men’s 65kg weight class.
Rowing and Shooting Squads Add to Bronze Count
Vietnam’s water sports athletes delivered a steady stream of podium finishes on the rowing course. The women’s four-seat rowing boat—comprising Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Du Thi Bong, Le Ngoc Hien, and Ha Thi Vui—rowed to a bronze medal. Additional rowing bronze medals came from the women’s double sculls pairing of Tran Thi Tu Uyen and Pham Thi Bich Ngoc, as well as the duo of Dinh Thi Hao and Pham Thi Hue. On the men’s side, the quadruple sculls team featuring Tran Duong Nghia, Thai Bao Toan, Hoang Van Dat, and Nguyen Phu also claimed bronze.
On the shooting range, the women’s 10m air pistol team consisting of Trinh Thu Vinh, Nguyen Thuy Trang, and Bui Thuy Thu Thuy teamed up to secure a bronze medal. Meanwhile, Duong Thuy Vi contributed a bronze medal in the women’s sword and spear routine.
Diverse Success in Teqball, Weightlifting, and eSports
The delegation’s medal haul expanded across varied disciplines, reflecting a broad competitive spread. In teqball, the mixed doubles pairing of Nguyen Hoang Minh Tan and Trinh Gia Nghi earned a bronze medal. Weightlifting added to the total when Tran Minh Tri finished on the podium in the men’s 65kg category.
Competitive gaming also delivered a podium finish for the delegation, with the Naraka: Bladepoint team securing a bronze medal in eSports. On the track and in the canoe basin, the 4x400m mixed relay team raced to a bronze medal, while Diep Thi Huong and Nguyen Thi Huong combined for a bronze in the women’s 500m canoe event, rounding out a productive opening phase of competition at ASIAD 20.
