Tennis club Castelnaudary mixed teams faced mixed fortunes during their latest round of interclub competition, with the fourth-series team falling short away from home while the third-series squad dropped a narrow decision on their home courts.
Fourth-Series Squad Battles at Névian
Traveling to face a notoriously difficult fixture away against AS Névian, Castelnaudary’s fourth-series team dropped a hard-fought 1–3 decision on the road. Martin Laloux and Alexis Dalloux opened the men’s doubles encounter with a sharp first-set performance, taking it 6/2. The home pair responded strongly in the second, establishing leads of 3/0 and 4/1 before the Castelnaudary duo clawed back to 4/4. Névian ultimately edged the second set 6/4 and proved more decisive in the super tie-break to claim the match.
In women’s singles, Maëva Chancrogne delivered a polished performance to level the overall tie, defeating her opponent in straight sets, 6/1, 6/2. The momentum shifted back in the mixed doubles, where Anca Brinzan and Jean-Pierre Sole fell behind against an AS Névian pairing that capitalized on critical moments. In men’s singles, Jean-Pierre Sole started aggressively to lead 5/2 before suffering from heat exhaustion, eventually dropping the first set 6/7. Although he broke immediately at the start of the second set and held serve, that proved to be his final game.
Following the defeat, the fourth-series team sits second in its pool standings and will enjoy a bye weekend during the next round of fixtures.
Third-Series Side Narrowly Misses Out Against Narbonne
Hosting ANT Narbonne on home courts, Castelnaudary’s third-series team sought to bounce back from a previous weekend loss but ultimately absorbed a 2–3 defeat. Jérôme Julia and Rémi Fiocco put the hosts ahead early by securing a three-set victory in the men’s doubles, winning 7/5, 4/6, 10/6.
In the mixed doubles, Samantha Doya and Maxence Taphanel put up a strong resistance before dropping a 4/6, 3/6 decision against a paper-favorite pair. With the score locked at 1–1 after the opening doubles matches, the outcome depended on the singles fixtures. Bianca Brinzan fell 1/6, 3/6 in women’s singles, while Thomas Alcacer leveled the team score for Castelnaudary with a hard-earned 7/5, 7/5 win in men’s singles. Codrut Brinzan dropped his singles match 1/6, 1/6, sealing the 2–3 team loss.
The third-series team currently occupies the bottom position of its pool and prepares for a lengthy away trip this coming Sunday to face ATC Cuxanais.
