Stichting Wijksport is expanding its pickleball schedule at Sporthal Mariënhoeve in Wijk bij Duurstede, adding a Monday morning session starting in October to accommodate growing participant enthusiasm.
Schedule Expansion at Sporthal Mariënhoeve
The expansion comes in response to high demand among local participants looking for accessible ways to stay active.
Accessibility and Format of Pickleball
Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis on a relatively compact court. Because the rules are straightforward and the game is easy to pick up, participants do not need any prior experience with racket sports. The setup appeals to a wide range of ages and skill levels, welcoming both seniors seeking low-threshold physical activity and younger players.
Community Focus and Social Interaction
Beyond physical exercise, Stichting Wijksport emphasizes social connection and enjoyment. Group sessions feature a shared warming-up led by group guide Paul van Straalen, followed by practical tips, guided exercises, and open match play tailored to individual skill levels. Participants regularly gather after sessions to share coffee or tea, turning the sports morning into a community gathering.

October Promotional Campaign
To celebrate the schedule expansion, Stichting Wijksport launched a special promotion for October. Participants who purchase a punch card (strippenkaart) during the month receive bonus play sessions: a 10-ride card includes one extra session, while a 20-ride card includes two extra sessions. These cards grant access to Monday and Friday group activities or allow players to book a court for independent play.
Registration and Contact Information
New participants can join alone or with a partner. Community sports coach Fleur Zumbrink handles inquiries and registrations via phone at 06-45995614 or by email at [email protected]. Additional details are available on the Stichting Wijksport website.
