Starting pitcher Gwak Been delivered a dominant performance on the mound, working six and one-third innings while surrendering just a single run to power the squad to victory approximately 85 kilometers southeast of Nagoya. Gwak neutralized the Japanese batting order by striking out nine batters and conceding only four hits before handing the ball over to the bullpen.
Decisive Hits Break Open the Final
With the game tightly contested, South Korea broke through offensively behind timely hitting in the middle innings. Infielder Kim Do-yeong delivered a run-scoring single that put his side ahead, shifting the momentum of the championship match. Moments later, batter Moon Bo-gyeong added an insurance run with another clean single, driving in the team’s third run of the contest.
That run support proved more than enough for the pitching staff. Following Gwak’s departure, relief pitchers Jo Byeong-hyeon and Park Yeong-hyun combined to shut down the Japanese attack through the final frames, preserving the two-run margin to lock down the tournament title.
