The Invencible Centro Internacional de Tiro Deportivo officially opened its doors in Recreo, Argentina, establishing a brand-new, internationally compliant venue for the upcoming 2026 South American Games. Governor Maximiliano Pullaro and local officials inaugurated the facility on the western side of the former General Belgrano Military High School grounds, marking a major addition to the regional sports infrastructure ahead of the continental multi-sport event scheduled for September.
A Modern Facility Built to International Standards
Designed specifically to meet the rigorous technical demands of high-level competition, the newly minted complex features 80 dedicated shooting lines split across three distinct sectors. Athletes have access to 30 lines for 10-meter events, 20 lines for 25-meter disciplines, and an additional 30 lines for 50-meter competitions. In addition to the ranges, the venue incorporates three specialized shotgun fields built for Skeet and Trap disciplines.
Lucas Condal, the subsecretary of architecture for the Ministry of Public Works of Santa Fe, noted that the facility represents the sixth major infrastructure project completed explicitly for the Santa Fe 2026 Games. The complex includes dedicated spaces for athletes, team delegations, officials, and media. Spectator stands at the shooting ranges hold up to 448 seated guests, while the shotgun sector features a dedicated support pavilion complete with storage areas and sanitation facilities.
Star Athletes and Regional Impact
The opening ceremony drew several prominent figures from the Argentine shooting community, including Olympians Alexis Eberhardt and Amelia Fourne. They were joined by Alliana Volkart, a medalist from the 2018 Odesur Games who also competed at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, highlighting the caliber of talent expected to train and compete at the Recreo venue.
Governor Pullaro emphasized that the investment extends well beyond a single tournament. During the inauguration ceremony, he described the venue as the most modern shooting center in Latin America and outlined a strategy to leverage the complex for year-round sports tourism. Local leaders anticipate that regular national and regional competitions will draw visitors to Recreo on a consistent basis, boosting regional hospitality, gastronomy, and local employment.
Infrastructure and Urban Integration
The project extended far beyond the shooting ranges themselves, transforming the immediate urban landscape surrounding the former military school site. Municipal and provincial works included the construction of new connecting roadways to serve as continuations of Juan Pablo II and Leopoldo Lugones streets. Crews added curb and gutter systems, stabilized paving, drainage, and street lighting.
To ensure full accessibility for all visitors and competitors, sidewalks and pedestrian paths now feature directional and alert podotactile tiles. Utility expansions brought electrical grids, a dedicated sub-station transformer, and extended water and sewage networks to the sector. Recreo Mayor Omar Colombo praised the project for revitalizing a historically significant municipal property and integrating it into an expanding educational and athletic district.
What Comes Next for Santa Fe 2026
With construction complete and the facility officially handed over to sports authorities, attention turns toward test events and preparatory training camps ahead of the official opening of the South American Games. The multi-sport competition will run from September 12 through September 26, bringing athletes from across the region to Santa Fe province.
