Former Barcelona and Brazil star Dani Alves surprised observers in El Salvador this week by wearing the jersey of Club Deportivo FAS, one of the country’s most historic football clubs, during a community-focused visit that included youth sports events and civic engagements.

The visit to Central America brought Alves to several community and municipal events over the weekend. On Friday, the former right-back arrived in the country to take part in the ninth edition of a public cycling event organized by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MOPT).

Over the subsequent days, his itinerary included a youth soccer medal ceremony in the Soyapango district of San Salvador Este, a public appearance in the historic center of San Salvador, and attendance at a Davis Cup tennis series between El Salvador and Portugal, where he offered public support to local player Marcelo Arévalo.

During his stay, Alves addressed his hosts and followers through public social media posts reflecting on his reception in the country.
“Thank you, Salvadorans, for the genuine love you have for my loved ones,” Alves wrote in messages cited by regional media. “I declare in the name of Jesus that you will not only be recognized for your restoration, but also for your capacity to continue transforming and impacting lives in all places.”
Legal Acquittal and Faith-Based Focus
The trip marks a public appearance phase for the veteran footballer following legal developments in Spain. After spending several months in detention following a sexual assault conviction, Alves was acquitted in 2025 by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC).
Following his release and acquittal, public accounts and local reports note that the former defender has increasingly engaged in evangelical preaching and community outreach activities.
