The disclosure offers a stark look at the vulnerabilities high-earning athletes can face long after hanging up their boots. Roberto Carlos, who retired from professional play in 2012 at the age of 39, explained that the crisis did not stem from a lack of foresight regarding his post-playing career. Long before stepping away from the pitch, the legendary left-back had earned his sports director license and actively forged commercial partnerships with various global brands.
“Sempre pensei no pós-carreira,” Roberto Carlos explained, highlighting that he had built a legacy and protected his personal image well in advance of his retirement. Despite that preparation, however, external pressures and internal vulnerabilities drastically drained his accounts.
