Guerin took over the Wild front office in 2019 after winning two Stanley Cup titles as an assistant general manager with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Over his tenure, he—who logged 1,263 regular-season games across 18 NHL playing seasons—has earned a reputation as one of the league’s boldest decision-makers. That aggressive roster strategy was underscored last season when Guerin signed Kirill Kaprizov to an eight-year, $136 million contract extension, which set a league benchmark at the time. Guerin also secured defenseman Quinn Hughes via trade before capturing the Jim Gregory Award as the NHL’s General Manager of the Year.
International Success and Franchise Momentum
Beyond his club duties in Minnesota, Guerin served as general manager for the United States men’s national ice hockey team. Under his leadership, Team USA captured its first Olympic gold medal since 1980 during the international tournament held in February in Italy. Back in Saint Paul, the Wild organization has prioritized continuity at the top of the hockey operations department.
