The 3rd Austrian Advanced Ranking Tournament (ÖBV Advanced Ranglistenturnier) delivered a record-breaking weekend of competitive badminton in Lower Austria, bringing 131 players to the courts for 295 matches over two intense days of play.
Record Turnout at Wiener Neustadt HTL Hall
For the first time, the sports hall at HTL Wiener Neustadt hosted the national ranking event. ASVÖ Badminton Wiener Neustadt served as the tournament organizer, guiding a massive draw that pushed the venue and scheduling to its operational limits. According to tournament director Michael Steiner, the 295 contested matches represented “the upper end of what is organizationally and athletically manageable over two tournament days.”
The event drew players from across the country, with youth competitors making up a significant portion of the field. Out of the 131 registered athletes, 50 participants competed in youth categories, showcasing the depth of emerging talent in Austrian badminton.
Singles Champions Crowned in Hard-Fought Finals
In the men’s singles draw, Lalropuia Lalropuia of URW Wien captured the title after a tightly contested final against Nathan Schuur of ATSE Graz. Lalropuia secured the victory in straight sets, closing out the match 21-16, 21-19.
The women’s singles final highlighted a strong showing from Upper Austrian youth players. Monah Kundl, representing Sportunion Raiffeisen Braunau, defeated top-seeded Kateryna Zaitseva of Badminton Mödling. Kundl claimed the trophy with a 21-19, 21-10 straight-sets win.
Doubles and Organizational Success
High-level competition extended across all doubles disciplines, producing winners from clubs across Austria:
- Mixed Doubles: Ferdinand Bauer and Lena Schindl (WBH Wien)
- Men’s Doubles: Emil Auberger and Yann Zaccharia (ASKÖ Traun / DSG Tirol)
- Women’s Doubles: Maria Steinmann and Ina Tippelt (ATV Andorf Badminton / Sportunion Vorchdorf)
Tournament director Michael Steiner praised the physical effort required by the weekend’s schedule. “The sweat-inducing matches demanded peak physical performance from all participants—our utmost respect for that,” Steiner stated, extending gratitude to the volunteers from ASVÖ Badminton Wiener Neustadt and tournament referee Michael Tao for maintaining a smooth and fair atmosphere throughout the weekend.
