The fifth national cap baseball championship, officially titled the “Dai-5-kai Futa no Jin in Osaka” (第5回蓋ノ陣in大阪), drew 58 teams and approximately 450 participants to Osaka Prefecture from August 12 to August 14, 2026.
Fifty-Eight Teams Converge on Habikino Arena
Staged over three days at Takeda Hamu Habikino Coliseum—also known as the Habikino City General Sports Center—the tournament showcased the rapid expansion of cap baseball, a sport played indoors using plastic bottle caps.
Industrial Backing and the RIN Recycling Initiative
Nihon Yamamura Glass Co., Ltd., a Hyogo-based firm led by Representative Director and President Noboru Yamamura, continued its corporate sponsorship of the national competition since 2024.
According to company releases, the sponsorship aligns with the firm’s broader plastic recycling initiative known as RIN (Recycle Innovation in the New Normal). The project seeks to promote resource circulation by turning used bottle caps into new caps or products and establishing partnerships for a flow from product design to collection, regeneration, and reuse.
Bridging the Public Awareness Gap on Post-Consumer Waste
During the tournament, organizers and corporate representatives highlighted a persistent gap in public awareness regarding post-consumer waste.
While the collection of plastic bottle caps is recognized, the subsequent resource recovery and circular utilization are not sufficiently known. To bridge this information gap, Nihon Yamamura Glass displayed banners inside the Habikino arena, detailing its bottle cap collection and recycling activities.
Corporate Leadership Crowns the National Champions
The tournament culminated in an awards ceremony where the company president presented the championship flag to the winning squad.

In remarks delivered at the closing event, the president emphasized that viewing used caps as circular resources is important. The company confirmed plans to continue promoting the circular use of plastic bottle caps and understanding of the circular economy to contribute to the realization of a sustainable society.
From Digital Novelty to Structured Competitive Leagues
Cap baseball itself has grown organically through digital platforms, with the sport gaining attention primarily through SNS.
Originally conceived as a casual indoor pastime utilizing plastic bottle caps, the discipline is associated with the Japan Cap Baseball Association.
