The Charlotte Hornets have acquired guard Rob Dillingham from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for guard Buddy Hield and a little money, according to a report by Shams Charania. The transaction marks the third time Hield has been traded within a span of seven months, following previous stops with the Golden State Warriors and the Atlanta Hawks.
Hield, a 33-year-old shooter, appeared in 51 games during the previous season, averaging 7.6 points per game while shooting 44 percent from the field. For Charlotte, the deal yields immediate financial relief by saving three million dollars, alongside the addition of a young guard in Dillingham.
The Path of Rob Dillingham to Charlotte
The Minnesota Timberwolves originally selected Dillingham with the eighth pick in 2024 out of Kentucky. After spending roughly a season and a half with Minnesota, the guard was subsequently moved to Chicago. During his tenure with the Bulls, Dillingham logged appearances in 30 contests, posting averages of 9.6 points and 2.8 assists per game.
The acquisition adds another young piece to a crowded backcourt. Dillingham joins guard Dennis Schröder and rookie Christian Anderson. Although Dillingham is not categorized as a traditional point guard, he enters a competitive rotation where playing time must be earned.

Prior to finalizing the agreement with Chicago, the Hornets announced the release of guard Ryan Nembhard. Nembhard had previously arrived in Charlotte from Atlanta.
