Marc Márquez Wins Misano GP and Takes MotoGP Championship Lead in Historic Spanish Sweep

The race at Misano featured a historic milestone for Spanish motorsport, with six Spanish riders occupying the top six finishing positions: Marc Márquez, Àlex Márquez, Pedro Acosta, Fermín Aldeguer, Jorge Martín, and Raúl Fernández. Reporting from El Periódico de Catalunya highlighted that such a sweep of the top positions had never before occurred in a premier-class grand prix.

How the Misano Grand Prix Unfolded

The decisive turning point arrived on the opening lap. Starting from the grid, Aprilia rider Marco Bezzecchi crashed out at the third corner, handing the lead directly to Marc Márquez on the Lenovo Ducati. The Italian’s unexpected exit shook up the front group. Jorge Martín, riding for Aprilia and entering the weekend as the championship leader, quickly launched an attack on Márquez and briefly took over the lead.

Martín’s stint at the front proved short-lived. Márquez responded with an inside maneuver on the left and reclaimed the position, holding the lead through the remaining 15 laps to the checkered flag. Márquez completed the race distance in 41 minutes and 13.013 seconds.

Meanwhile, Àlex Márquez—nicknamed ‘El Pistolas’—maintained a steady pace roughly half a second behind his older brother throughout the afternoon. Despite running close to the leader all weekend, the younger Márquez brother never mounted a serious challenge for the win, securing second place just 0.675 seconds behind.

Championship Standings After Misano

The victory vaults Marc Márquez to the summit of the riders’ world championship. After struggling earlier in the campaign—noting that he once trailed the leader by 102 points during a previous visit to Italy—Márquez now sits tied at the top with Jorge Martín.

Official standings place Marc Márquez and Jorge Martín level at 274 points apiece. Marco Bezzecchi remains in third with 241 points despite his Misano retirement, followed by Fabio Di Giannantonio in fourth with 223 points and Pedro Acosta in fifth with 209 points.

«Almost I can hardly believe it, it doesn’t seem real, not long ago, on the last visit to Italy, I left 102 points behind the leader and now I share that position with Jorge», Marc Márquez told MotoGP TV after the race. «It is true that there is a long way to go, but it is very comforting to be in this position».

Behind the Márquez brothers, Pedro Acosta finished third for KTM, trailing by 2.326 seconds. Fermín Aldeguer took fourth place for Ducati, finishing 6.027 seconds back, while Jorge Martín rounded out the top five for Aprilia, crossing the line 14.021 seconds behind the winner.
