Liberty Media’s ongoing restructuring of the MotoGP World Championship has drawn prominent corporate executives from Formula 1, the English Premier League, and American professional football into its senior leadership team. The appointments, announced on September 23, expand the commercial, media, and operational footprint of the global motorcycle racing series under its new ownership group, while sparking sharp debate across the paddock regarding the balance between commercial expansion and sporting heritage.
Corporate Restructuring and New Leadership Appointments
The newly unveiled leadership roster brings diverse expertise from across the global sports and entertainment industries. Ryan Norys joins the MotoGP Sports Entertainment Group as Chief Commercial Officer, moving from English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. Sameer Pabari takes over as Chief Media Officer, bringing prior leadership experience from the National Football League, Warner Bros. Discovery, and Manchester United. Denitza Batchvarova assumed the role of Chief Strategy Officer earlier in the month, backed by two decades of strategic financial and sports entertainment leadership at UFC and TKO Group Holdings. From Formula 1 comes Louise Young, who steps in as Chief Operating Officer with an eight-year background in organizing events and managing relationships with Grand Prix promoters, circuits, and government authorities, alongside oversight of environmental, social, and governance activities.

These appointments reinforce an executive structure that already features Carlos Ezpeleta as deputy managing director, a position he assumed in late August. Carmelo Ezpeleta remains Chief Executive Officer, supported by Vince Russell as chief financial officer and Enrique Aldama as administrative director.
Outlining the vision behind the hires, Carlos Ezpeleta stated that the new additions represent a vital step in constructing a team designed to shape the future of the sport. According to Ezpeleta, the appointments are intended to strengthen commercial, media, operational, and strategic capabilities, deepen fan engagement, expand audiences, and create fresh opportunities for both current and future commercial partners, all while building upon the established foundation of the championship.
Paddock Reaction and the Debate Over Sporting Identity
Despite the high-profile corporate arrivals, industry figures and competitors have voiced caution regarding the direction of the championship. Gigi Dall’Igna has publicly emphasized that while entertainment value remains important, the competition must retain its core history, both in technical development and human achievement. Observers within the paddock have noted that while experienced executives from other sports can enhance operations, core technical competencies risk being marginalized if commercial priorities dominate regulatory decisions.
Concerns have also surfaced regarding proposals touching on urban street circuits and potential shifts in media coverage surrounding feeder classes. Critics argue that preserving the heritage and foundational pillars of motorcycle racing is essential as Liberty Media implements its long-term strategic vision for the series.
