Born in San Mauro Pascoli, Italy, on September 3, 1950, Zanotti carved out a reputation as a combative, relentless warrior wearing the number four shirt for the Biancorossi. His professional journey with Piacenza spanned two distinct eras, first anchoring the midfield from 1977 to 1979 before returning for subsequent campaigns in 1981 and 1982.
An Enduring Midfield Presence in Piacenza
During his time at Piacenza Calcio, Zanotti played under a rotating cast of managers—including Ezio Galbiati, Sergio Montanari, Bruno Fornasaro, Romano Matté, Pier Luigi Meciani, and Stefano Angeleri—while serving clubs under the presidency of Luigi Loschi. Operating as an undisputed starter for three successive seasons, his industrious style made him a fan favorite.
In 1980, Zanotti was transferred to Siracusa. The move proved short-lived due to administrative complications when the Sicilian club failed to pay the transfer fee, allowing the midfielder to return to Piacenza a year later. By 1982, his leadership on and off the pitch earned him the club captaincy.

When a renewal call from the club failed to materialize, Zanotti departed to finish his playing career with Vogherese in Serie C2.
